
AFTER MOLDING - FINISHING THE BLANKS
Paint Finishing Masks After injection molding, the model seam lines were filed, sanded and buffed with a high speed buffer to a smooth surface. The final finishing steps were airbrusing and decaling. Models were airbrushed using various homemade paint masks and jigs of metal and/or a wood framework assuring a uniform paint line. None were high-tech, but did the job well. When the soft metal used for the paint masks reached $10/lb., many Topping masks were melted to make new masks. Precise later used heat formed plastic which were very cost effective. Some of the paint jigs and masks used are shown below.
